Alabama’s AHSAA boys basketball regional finals for all seven of the state’s classifications are set for early next week.
The earliest games will tip off on Monday with the action continuing through Wednesday. The winners of the regional finals in each classification will advance to the state semifinals which are scheduled to get under way on March 2 with the state championships concluding by March 7.
Only one of the state’s top-ranked teams failed to advance to next week’s regional finals as Class 3A’s Hale County [Moundville, AL[ Wildcats were upset, 75-73, by the Midfield [AL] Patriots earlier this week. Midfield is the highest-ranked team remaining in the Class 3A ranks, but their Tuesday night meeting with the Montgomery [AL] Academy Eagles in the Southeast region final features another team that has to be considered among the favorites at this point to win the Class 3A title.
The Class 7A playoffs, meamwhile, finally got under way Friday with two games taking place. The Enterprise [AL] Wildcats defeated the Central [Phenix City, AL] Red Devils to advance to the region finals where they will be joined by the Davidson [AL] Warriors, a 64-50 winner over the Daphne [AL] Trojans. Class 7A’s top-ranked Huntsville [AL] Panthers are scheduled to take on the Hoover [AL] Buccaneers for another spot in the region finals.
