Canada is heading to the men’s ice hockey gold medal game at the 2026 Olympics.

The game was tied 2-2 with three minutes left in the game. Finland scored the first two goals of the game, but Canada was able to claw its way back in scoring two goals, with the second coming with 10 minutes left in regulation.

Canada got a powerplay with 2:35 left in the game after Finland was called for high sticking. With 35.2 seconds left in the game, and two seconds left on the power play, Nathan MacKinnon scored a slapshot goal to put Canada up 3-2.

Nathan MacKinnon goal video vs. Finland

Canada spent its power play working the puck around Finland’s zone, trying to find an opportunity. The Canadians took some shots, peppering Finland goalie Juuse Saros, who made several impressive saves.

Canada brought the puck into the zone and got it to MacKinnon on the left side of the ice. He fired a slap shot toward the net and beat Saros to put the Canadians ahead with what ended up being the game-winning goal.

Canada vs. Finland score

Canada beat Finland 3-2.

Finland was first to get on the scoreboard. Mikko Rantanen found the net on a power play with just under five minutes left in the first period. Erik Haula scored in the second period while Finland was short-handed to put it up 2-0.

Canada’s Sam Reinhart netted his team’s first goal of the game with just under six minutes left in the second period on a power play. With 10 minutes to go in regulation, Shea Theodore scored at even strength to tie the game at 2-2.

MacKinnon scored the power-play goal — which ended up being the game-winner — with just over 30 seconds left in regulation.
