Amber Glenn came into Tuesday’s short program at the 2026 Winter Olympics as a medal hopeful and one of the most successful figure skaters in the United States. But as she heads into Thursday’s free skate, things look a lot different for Glenn.
As the second-to-last skater among 29 in the short program, a bailed triple-loop doomed Glenn’s performance on Tuesday, landing her in 13th place with a score of 67.39. In just a few seconds, she went from one of the medal favorites to trailing a significant group of skaters, due to the invalid element of her short-program skate.

On Thursday, Glenn will now do her best to salvage her Olympic performance in the free skate, needing others to fall if she’s going to make a comeback in the standings. While the U.S. does have a clear medal shot in Alyssa Liu, Glenn will need to be fairly flawless in her free skate to have a chance to contend at the top of the leaderboard.

2:03 p.m. — We are now approaching Amber Glenn’s free skate performance, as six skaters have competed so far. Glenn is set to appear in around 40 minutes.
Can Amber Glenn still medal?
Simply put: it is going to be extremely difficult for Amber Glenn to receive a medal in the women’s figure skating final after her score in Tuesday’s short program.
After falling to 13th among all skaters on Tuesday, Glenn would first need to post one of the highest, if not the highest, score in Thursday’s free skate. She would also need some help from others falling apart, namely skaters like Japan’s trio of Ami Nakai, Kaori Sakamoto and Mone Chiba, who all had top-4 scores in the short program.
It’s not impossible, but Glenn medaling in the event would be one of the bigger upsets across figure skating history, at this point.
What time does Amber Glenn actually skate?
Amber Glenn will be taking the ice at approximately 2:42 p.m. ET on Thursday, Feb. 19, per Ben Huddleston.
The free skate is officially set to begin at 1 p.m. ET, with skaters taking the ice one-at-a-time.

The women’s figure skating final is the second of a two-part event. The short program was the first part of their final score, and it will be added to Thursday’s free skate score that will be tallied on for one final score.
The free skating program will begin at 1 p.m. ET. Glenn is not expected to compete until closer to 2:45 p.m. ET due to the length of the event and the number of competitors.
NBC will be airing the women’s figure skating final from 1-5 p.m. ET. The event will also be available to stream on Peacock.
