Spring Training check-ins are underway across camp, and New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone offered an encouraging early update on slugger Giancarlo Stanton.
Speaking with reporters, including Randy Miller of NJ.com, Boone had very promising words to say about Stanton, who has dealt with many injuries throughout his time in the Bronx.
“I think he’s doing great,” Boone said of Stanton. “I haven’t seen him yet. He’s one of the guys that will get here. But he’s had a good winter. He’s ready to roll.”
Stanton’s health has been a recurring storyline in recent seasons, making any positive offseason news a good thing as the Yankees prepare for the regular season.
Boone also made it clear that, even with Stanton feeling well, the team will stick to its usual approach early in camp and try not to overdo it.
“I don’t expect any limitations. I usually slow-play him into games in spring, so you might not see him that first week.”
That ramp-up stuff has been normal for Stanton, as it allows him to build himself up without getting hurt doing something that’s ultimately useless.
If the early outlook continues on, the Yankees could enter the season with one of their top power bats fully available, a key factor for a lineup looking to not only score a lot of runs, but also hit home runs and win the American League.
