The Arizona Cardinals will have a new-look quarterback room in 2026 as the team prepares to move on from Kyler Murray, and it looks like the franchise has its eyes on a certain signal-caller on the Chicago Bears.
John Gambadoro of 98.7 FM Phoenix reported on Tuesday that Arizona has interest in trading for Bears quarterback Tyson Bagent.
Bagent has served as Caleb Williams’ backup in Chicago over the last two years.
“Have heard the Cardinals are intrigued by Bears backup QB Tyson Bagent. Was an undrafted free-agent who beat out PJ Walker for the backup job with Chicago and was so good the Bears signed him to a 2-year $10M extension,” Gambadoro said.
Bagent has thrown just six passes since 2024, but in four starts during his rookie campaign in 2023, he completed 65.7% of his passes and led the Bears to a 2-2 record. However, the Shepherd product also had more interceptions (6) than touchdown passes (3) that year.
Though Bagent is a high-level backup, he is a low-quality starter and wouldn’t be a sufficient replacement for Murray in Arizona.
It also doesn’t make much sense to trade for Bagent to be the backup signal-caller, as Jacoby Brissett is still under contract with the Cardinals for another season and is the much more experienced player.
Overall, giving up draft capital for Bagent would be an abysmal move from Arizona. The 25-year-old isn’t capable of being a long-term starter, and the Cardinals already have a viable backup on the roster in Brissett.
