The Golden State Warriors will be the center of attention again in the offseason.
With the organization expecting to pursue Milwaukee Bucks Giannis Antetokounmpo again, many will be eager to see if the seven-time NBA champions will complete the biggest deal of the summer.
However, Los Angeles Clippers standout forward Kawhi Leonard was regarded as a sleeper alternative trade target for the Dubs this year, and many believe that’ll also be the case in the offseason.
ESPN’s Anthony Slater agrees, recently citing that he’s an asset that will be linked to Golden State.
“He’d (Leonard) be an obvious Warriors candidate as well,” Slater said Friday. “Obviously, they’ve been in the Giannis chase, but they need a big wing who can score and defend.”
Leonard wouldn’t be a bad option for the Warriors to pivot to if they fall short in the Antetokounmpo sweepstakes again.
After all, the 34-year-old is having an outstanding season in Los Angeles, averaging 27.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 3.7 assists, and 2.1 assists on a Clippers squad that has emerged as a potential playoff team following a slow start to the year.
Leonard is also shooting above 36% from three for the 7th consecutive season, showcasing his consistency from beyond the arc.
Snagging a dynamic and accomplished two-way wing like Leonard, who isn’t a stranger to winning championships as a top scoring option/playmaker, would be a wise option.
