It’s crunch time for women’s hockey in the 2026 Winter Olympics, as eight teams made the knockout stage of the tournament.
Canada enters this stage of the tournament as the No. 2 seed, after winning three of its four preliminary round games. While Canada couldn’t conquer Team USA on Tuesday, it bounced back with a strong victory over Finland on Thursday.
The story of the past few games for Canada has been the health of Marie-Philip Poulin, as the captain has missed two straight games with an injury. Poulin’s status is key for Canada moving forward in the tournament, as she is one of the best and most experienced players in the entire competition.
Germany, meanwhile, came in second in Group B play but earned the No. 7 seed after a 2-1-1-0 showing. Of the Germans’ three wins, two were by one goal and one was by a three-goal margin, and they enter the knockout stage on a three-game winning streak.
The winner of this game will move on to the semifinals, which will be played on Monday.
