Trade rumors and speculation surrounding Las Vegas Raiders star edge rusher Maxx Crosby have been heating up this offseason.
While it remains to be seen if Crosby and/or the Raiders are open to a trade, NFL insider Jordan Schultz revealed the price it would take to acquire him.
According to Schultz, the Raiders would need “somewhere along the lines of a Micah Parsons package” in order to even consider trading Crosby, which he isn’t certain the team even wants to do.
“The only way the Raiders move Crosby is if they command somewhere along the lines of a Micah Parsons package,” Schultz said. “That’s the type of haul that the Raiders would have to get to even consider moving Crosby.
“I don’t even know if they want to move him. I’m not convinced they do.”
Of course, the Dallas Cowboys racked up two first-round picks and lineman Kenny Clark for Parsons, but we would suggest Crosby would garner less than that given he’s a few years older than Parsons.
That said, Schultz at least gives potential suitors, which could include the Cowboys, New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks, a price point.
Because of the Parsons trade, the Cowboys desperately need a major addition along the edge. Dallas is almost certainly going to be involved in trade talks for Crosby if he’s made available after they reportedly inquired about him last year.
The Patriots have a need along the edge thanks to K’Lavon Chaisson’s pending free-agent status. While New England could bring him back, the Super Bowl runner-up should be looking for a more proven and impactful edge rusher like Crosby.
The Seahawks don’t need much this offseason, but they could use an upgrade at edge rusher and Boye Mafe may not return if he hits the open market. Seattle is well-positioned to absorb Crosby’s contract with $72.2 million in cap space.
If it does take multiple first-rounders to acquire Crosby, the Cowboys are in the best shape to give up that kind of haul, with Dallas sporting three first round picks in the next two drafts.
But it’s also worth noting that the Patriots and Seahawks both have their first-round picks in the next two drafts, so they are capable of making this kind of all-in move.
If the Raiders do trade Crosby, they’re almost certainly going to work with him to send the veteran where he wants to go due to the high level of respect they have for him, and Super Bowl contenders will be at the top of that list.
The Seahawks and Patriots both check that box, while the Cowboys do not.
