It isn’t too often that the Golden State Warriors will help the Los Angeles Lakers in any way, shape, or form.
The two franchises are in the same conference and desperately want to be the last team standing in June. According to ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel, though, the Lakers now know the asking price for a Trey Murphy offseason trade thanks to the Warriors.
“If New Orleans was going to trade Murphy to Golden State, sources said it would have taken at least three unprotected picks to make up for what the Pelicans deemed ‘undesirable assets,” Siegel reported Tuesday.
Murphy was an ideal three-and-D target for the Lakers this season. The Virginia product signed a four-year, $112 million rookie contract extension with the Pelicans in 2024 and appears to be every penny.
The Virginia product continues to flaunt his fluid athleticism, consistent three-point production, elite lateral quickness, and top-tier instincts. Murphy is averaging 22.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game with the Pelicans this season, shooting 47.7% from the field and 38.0% from three-point land.
The Lakers could have used Murphy’s services this season, but a deal never materialized before the trade deadline. Instead, Los Angeles acquired Luke Kennard in a trade that shipped Gabe Vincent and a 2031 second-round pick to the Atlanta Hawks.
If the Lakers want to revisit a trade for Murphy in the summer, though, it’s helpful to know the Pelicans will value draft capital in a potential trade.
