This offseason is a big one for the Denver Broncos. After a frustrating and disappointing end to 2025, where Bo Nix got hurt in the AFC Divisional round and ruined any chance of beating the New England Patriots, the Broncos have some work to do.
While the offseason moves, including adding and subtracting players from the roster, will be big decisions, there is another in the coaching staff that could have massive ramifications for the future in Denver.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Broncos are reportedly considering a major offensive change. Specifically, Sean Payton is open to a change in play caller, with Davis Webb, the new offensive coordinator, taking over duties next season.
Broncos’ Sean Payton might give up play-calling to Davis Webb
“I’ve talked to several people in the league who believe that coach Sean Payton will eventually relinquish playcalling to Webb, a fast riser who had multiple head coaching interviews this cycle,” Fowler writes.
The Brocons making this change would be some massive news for the offense. Payton has been calling plays the entire time, but now, that might change.
Nix and the offense could use some extra juice, as their inconsistencies this past season nearly cost them multiple games.
Webb, a young and upcoming coach who was nearly poached this offseason, could become the play caller for the 2026 season.

After getting significant offensive coordinator and even head coaching interest, Webb is very likely to be poached next offseason for a head coaching job.
He took over for Joe Lombardi as the offensive coordinator this season, and while he turned down those outside opportunities, next year, he might be ready for a head coaching gig.
With such an uncertain future with Webb, the Broncos might turn to the young OC to be their play caller for the 2026 season in hopes his prowess will get them back to the playoffs for another deep run.
The defense is incredible, and an improved offense, which is possible in a switch from Payton to Webb, could have the Broncos as the team to beat in the AFC next year, with a healthy Nix and revamped offense.
