Travis Kelce has been having himself a good time during Super Bowl week, making his presence felt ahead of the NFL’s showcase event.
Once the big game is over, though, the Kansas City Chiefs‘ legendary tight end will have a big decision to make about his potential retirement.
Kelce, 36, had been rumored all season to potentially be in his last season in the league, but no one quite knows for sure what Kelce is going to do.
It’s already a big offseason, with his wedding to Taylor Swift in June, but the football world is also quite tuned in to whatever Kelce decides here.
He’s one of the greatest tight ends of all time, and part of the league’s most recent dynasty, and so his choice looms large.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the latest on Sunday morning, and it sounds like discussions are coming soon.
“The perennial Pro Bowler, who had a resurgent 2025 to reassert his place among the game’s best despite being 36 years old, has not made a firm decision on his future,” Rapoport writes. “However, he has been in touch with his team about a potential return and Kansas City wants him back, sources say. The plan is to reconvene after the Super Bowl to finalize a plan that works for both parties.”
That suggests a timeline that could have a decision here sooner rather than later. For Chiefs fans, that certainly would be nicer than waiting all offseason to figure out what Kelce will do.
Kelce’s contract ended with this season, so he’s technically a free agent and will need a new deal to return.
The tight end has already made it clear on his podcast that he’s pumped about the return of offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, making comments that certainly suggest he plans on continuing to play football.
Pretty soon, the NFL world might know for sure.
