LeBron James wasn’t selected as an All-Star starter this season, snapping a remarkable 21-year streak.
However, the four-time NBA champion forward will be a reserve, helping him make All-Star history that has only been achieved by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
“Lakers forward LeBron James has been selected as a reserve for the 2026 NBA All-Star Game, set for Sunday, Feb. 15, in Los Angeles,” the Lakers said in a press release. “The honor extends James’ NBA record of 22 consecutive All-Star selections, spanning three decades (2005-26).”
“James becomes the second player in NBA history to earn multiple All-Star selections after age 40, joining Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.”
Many believed that James was undeserving of an All-Star spot in Year 23. Kawhi Leonard headlines the list of All-Star snubs, and statistically, Leonard has a legitimate case to be included over James.
The two-time MVP is averaging 27.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 2.1 steals per game with the Clippers, shooting 49.7% from the field and 39.1% from beyond the arc. James, on the other hand, is contributing 22.0 points, 6.6 assists, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per game while connecting 50.9% of his field goals and 32.2% from three-point land.
At the end of the day, James was selected, and Kawhi wasn’t, allowing the Lakers’ aging star to achieve a historic feat in early February.
