The Golden State Warriors are at a crossroads right now; they’re sitting at 27-23 and the eighth seed in the Western Conference. And with Jimmy Butler out for the season, they have two choices: find a replacement, or hit the big red button.
Fansided’s Christopher Kline believes that if Golden State chooses the former option, they could make a blockbuster trade for another injured star, in Dallas Mavericks superstar Anthony Davis.
The trade would look like this:
Warriors get: F/C Anthony Davis
Mavericks get: G/F Jimmy Butler, GSW 2026 first-round pick
“Golden State acquiring another aging, injury-prone star in Anthony Davis feels like the textbook definition of insanity, but there is a bit more logic behind such a move with Jimmy Butler out for the season. The Dallas Mavericks are undoubtedly willing to accept a bargain price for AD at this point. If the Mavs are willing to take on Butler’s contract (and injury rehab), with a first-round pick for their troubles, Golden State can start to really justify Davis as their target…When healthy, he’s still a dominant rim protector and the sort of interior bulldozer who can benefit from a partnership with Curry. The combined defensive superpowers of Davis and Green, with Curry working out of DHOs on the other end, gives the Warriors a real boost. His season is not over, whereas Butler is basically dead weight right now,” Kline wrote.
So far this season, Davis is averaging 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.7 blocks in 31 minutes per game, albeit he’s only played in 20 games. However, when he does play, he’s one of the more dominant forces in the NBA.
So, while Davis is injury-prone, he’s able to compete this season. And if the Warriors are set on contending, this is the move they need to consider.
