The Seattle Mariners are coming off a fantastic 2025 season, where they made a major run in the postseason. Off the backs of Julio Rodriguez and Cal Raleigh, the club made it all the way to the ALCS before their season would end against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Wanting to stay contenders, Seattle has kept itself busy this winter. Unlike most teams, they did not need to pay attention to the starting pitching market and instead focused on other areas.
They added reliever Jose Ferrer in a trade with the Washington Nationals. They also signed Rob Refsnyder and Andrew Kizner to one-year deals.
But their biggest splash came when they re-signed Josh Naylor. The two sides agreed on a five-year, $92.5 million contract.

Mariners projected Opening Day lineup features 3x All-Star free agent
Despite these moves, Seattle does have a question mark at second base. With Jorge Polanco gone, it will be interesting to see who mans 2B for the club in 2026.
Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter recently projected every team’s Opening Day lineup. In it, he has the Mariners coming to terms with three-time All-Star Luis Arraez.
2B Luis Arraez
CF Julio Rodriguez
C Cal Raleigh
1B Josh Naylor
LF Randy Arozarena
DH Dominic Canzone
SS J.P. Crawford
RF Victor Robles
3B Ben Williamson
Arraez is one of the few intriguing free agents left on the open market. While 2B may not be his main position, he knows how to play the position and would instantly bring Seattle’s strikeout rate down.
Arraez could also work as a veteran mentor for someone like Cole Young, who would likely be starting second base if the season started tomorrow.
All in all, this could be a great addition. However, with how fast the infield plays at T-Mobile Park, the front office will want to keep a close eye on Arraez if the two come to terms on a contract.
