With not much promise for the 2026 season, the Miami Marlins focused on trading established players for high-upside prospects. They have parted ways with several key contributors, but got some intriguing talent in return.
Miami struck a deal with the Chicago Cubs, sending Edward Cabrera their way in exchange for exciting prospect Owen Cassie, Cristian Hernandez, and Edgardo De Leon. They also made a trade with the New York Yankees, sending Ryan Weahters their way in exchange for Carlos Duran.
But Miami did not use the entire offseason to trade away players. They were able to come to terms with Pete Fairbanks as a late-inning piece and Christopher Morel, who could be used in a utility role.
Marlins predicted to sign former Gold Glove winner in latest lineup projection
The Marlins still have a few holes they need to work out before Opening Day rolls along. They could use some help at first or third base. They could also use some stability in center field as well.
Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter believes the Marlins will take care of their corner infield problem by signing former Gold Glove Award winner Nathaniel Lowe.
2B Xavier Edwards
CF Jakob Marsee
LF Kyle Stowers
DH Agustin Ramirez
RF Owen Cassie (R)
SS Otto Lopez
1B Nathaniel Lowe
C Joe Mack (R)
3B Connor Norby
Lowe is coming off a down year, leading to his DFA, but he has the tools to bounce back.
Miami’s projected Opening Day lineup features two rookies, Owen Cassie and Joe Mack. According to Reuter, they and the Cleveland Guardians are the only teams projected to start two rookies right out of the gate.
This is not going to be a lineup that will contend, but they have some exciting pieces that should be entertaining for the fanbase to watch.
