Tony Romo was ahead of the curve.

The CBS NFL color commentator was calling Taylor Swift the “wife” of Travis Kelce during the 2023 NFL season.

The duo won’t actually be married until June 2026.

Romo was always good at predicting plays.

That’s not why he did it, though, at least based on a new interview. Romo was asked about the apparent slip-ups during an interview on SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up on Thursday.

“I just wanted to make you guys think for a second,” Romo said, “just mess with you a little bit.”

It was certainly the kind of thing that caught social media’s attention at the time. Given the spotlight on the pop star Swift and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end Kelce, anything like that was bound to get fans into a frenzy.

Not many people thought Romo was actually breaking any kind of news. Most either found it to be entertaining analysis of their favorite couple, or were scoffing at Romo for making what appeared to be a silly mistake.

Romo has come under fire in the last couple years for his broadcasts seemingly taking a downturn from the quality he had when he first began his career with CBS.

The long-time Dallas Cowboys QB was a sensation at first, but of late, his partnership with Jim Nantz has drawn questions about whether CBS can keep them as the No. 1 NFL team for the network before they broadcast the Super Bowl in 2028.

For now, though, Romo is into his offseason and making the media rounds, sharing his thoughts on everything, including the soon-to-be newlyweds.
