Hall of Famer Terrell Owens reignited his long-running feud with Pro Football Hall of Fame voters Wednesday night, sharply criticizing the Hall after it warned that selection committee members could face removal for violating bylaws amid the controversy surrounding Bill Belichick.
Owens invokes own Hall of Fame battle
Owens, who was enshrined on the third ballot, has frequently argued that selectors inappropriately considered off-field issues against him. He responded on X by tagging the Hall and questioning where that level of accountability was during his own candidacy.
Hey @ProFootballHOF!!!!
WHERE THE HELL was this when they violated these bylaws when it came to me in 2016 and 2017???!!!! 🤔🤔🤔 https://t.co/pqNc3s8vVr— Terrell Owens (@terrellowens) January 29, 2026
The backlash arose after the Hall of Fame issued a statement on Wednesday indicating that it might take action against the selection committee. The statement mentioned that it would consider removing a committee member if any violations of the selection process bylaws were found. This came just a day after headlines emerged regarding the snubbing of six-time Super Bowl champion coach Bill Belichick, who missed out on a first-ballot selection. Belichick did not receive the necessary 80% of votes to secure a spot in this year’s class.
The Wednesday statement said the Hall of Fame annually reviews both the process and its selection committee. “The integrity of this process must be beyond reproach.”
