Drake Maye has led the New England Patriots to the Super Bowl in just his second season as an NFL quarterback.

But now that he’s there, there are some bad omens working against him. They stem from his name — like, literally his first and last name.

The fantastic statistician Jay Cuda shared three pieces of data on X working against Maye.

The first is that no starting quarterback with a less name shorter than five letters has ever won a Super Bowl.

For those keeping score at home, Maye is four letters.

Then, Cuda adds, starting QBs who have their first and last name ending in the same letter are 0-6 in Super Bowls since 1970.

Drake and Maye, as you may have noticed, both end with an ‘e’.

And then there’s the initials. Cuda shares that two QBs with D-M initials have played in the Super Bowl. They both lost.

Those quarterbacks are two all-time greats who are just lacking a ring on their ledger: Dan Marino and Donovan McNabb.

That’s a lot of trends for Maye to break.

But hey, second-year QBs usually aren’t getting here (although Marino’s Super Bowl appearance was actually in his second season, too).

Maye will have a tough task against the Seattle Seahawks, but the Patriots believe in their young QB, because he’s proven over and over again that he’s got what it takes, no matter what his name might be.
