In his age-30 season in the NBA, Karl-Anthony Towns has had a difficult time adjusting under first-year Knicks head coach Mike Brown.

Through 42 games this season, Towns is on pace to finish with numbers that haven’t been seen from him since his rookie season in 2015-16. He’s leading the league in rebounds per game (11.4), but is averaging 20.5 points and just under a steal (0.9) while playing a career-low 31.6 minutes per outing.

This display has stirred the pot for the center in the trade market.

Knicks are listening to trade offers on Karl-Anthony Towns, but a deal doesn’t seem likely

Stefan Bondy of the New York Post gave an update on the situation, saying that the Knicks haven’t been “shopping” Karl-Anthony Towns.

However, he said that this stance can change in the days leading up to the NBA trade deadline on Feb. 5.

At this point, New York does not appear to be seriously exploring a trade involving the 30-year-old, though Knicks owner James Dolan could be keeping a gauge on the market to see what the team might receive in return for the five-time All-Star.

The window for an NBA championship has opened for the Knicks, so this is their motive heading into the final days before the deadline.

When speaking on value, Towns ranks among the NBA’s most consistent big men, playing a major role in the Minnesota Timberwolves‘ run to the Western Conference Finals in 2024 and helping the Knicks reach the Eastern Conference Finals last season after being traded.

It appears that a sense of panic has erupted in New York since winning the NBA Cup in mid-December.
