All may not be lost for the Golden State Warriors after Jimmy Butler’s gut-wrenching ACL injury.
While it may be challenging, the Warriors could attempt to trade Butler for an asset (or multiple assets) that could help the Dubs succeed immediately.
Blue Man Hoop’s Jack Simone has a hunch that swapping Butler for an underrated Brooklyn Nets duo would instantly improve the Warriors’ roster.
“This Jimmy Butler-Warriors blockbuster could make sense,” Simone wrote Monday. “The Warriors have had a bunch of problems this year.”
“They need to fix plenty of issues in order to take on the best teams in the West and help Stephen Curry compete for a championship. However, if Golden State had to pick two problems that sit toward the top of its list, they would likely be consistent scoring next to Curry and better play at the center position.”
“If the Warriors managed to pull off a trade for both (Michael) Porter and (Nic) Claxton, it would be a major step toward solving those issues this season.”
While it may not excite the Dubs’ fan base, acquiring Porter and Claxton would help Golden State take a positive step forward in two pivotal areas: perimeter shooting and perimeter/interior defense.
It’s no secret that Porter is a three-point specialist who possesses a clean, one-motion jumper that enables him to find his groove from beyond the arc early and often (he’s averaging 24.9 points per game on 47.7% field goal shooting and 38.9% long-range shooting).
Claxton, on the other hand, is a versatile 6-foot-11 center who’s one of the most efficient players in the league and has proven he can defend multiple positions at an underrated level.
With the Warriors needing a boost on both ends of the floor, it would be wise for them to keep an open mind regarding a potential trade for Porter and Claxton.
