The Cleveland Guardians and Jose Ramirez have been a match made in heaven since he started with the team back in 2013.
Ramirez is on track to make the Hall of Fame, and after his $175 million extension with the Guardians, he will likely do so wearing only a Guardians cap in his career.
But this deal led some haters to comment on the team-friendly nature of Ramirez’s deal. However, Rafa Nieves, Ramirez’s agent, had a perfect response to the hate for taking these team-friendly deals to keep Ramirez in Cleveland.
Jose Ramirez’s agent has great response to hate for team-friendly deal
Chuck Naso of Barstool Sports posted on Twitter/x a comment saying, “Jose Ramirez’s agent has to hate him so much for taking these discounts.”
Naso isn’t the only one, as many fans don’t understand why Ramirez, unlike the rest of the Major Leaguers in baseball, won’t hit free agency and seek the most money.
In response to this comment, and others like it, Nieves highlighted just why those comments hating on Ramirez and his agent for taking “small” deals miss the point.
“The deal brings his total career earnings to $272m, and it also comes with a statue in CF, his number retired, a 1st ballot HOF entrance almost guaranteed, a baseball field, and also a street named after him in Cleveland,” Nieves posted. “Jose marches at the beat of his own drum, and I respect that. He will laugh at the critics all the way to the bank on his way to Cooperstown.”
Ramirez hasn’t signed the blockbuster extension that he likely couldn’t tried forcing his way into during his MLB career. Plenty of teams would’ve spent a fortune to bring Ramirez onto their roster.

But, he valued his time in Cleveland, and unlike many Major Leaguers, want’s to stay with one team for the entirety of his MLB career.
Nieves’ post in response to the haters is a very valid one, as Ramirez has done more than enough to do what he wants to do in his professional career.
Even though he could’ve landed a massive deal in free agency, that’s not what Ramirez wanted. He wants to stay in Cleveland, and this extension through 2032 does just that.
The future Hall of Fame third baseman is a Cleveland sports legend and is as loyal to his team as any player has been in their professional career.
