Blades Brown can set a PGA Tour record on Sunday.
No one as young as Brown has won on the tour since 1931, and Brown enters Sunday’s final round at The American Express golf tournament just one shot off the lead.
He’ll be in the final trio with Si Woo Kim (-22) and Scottie Scheffler (-21), with Brown also at 21-under.
It could be a special day for the youngster.
How old is Blades Brown?
Blades Brown is 18 years old.
He’ll turn 19 on May 21.
Does Blades Brown play in college?
No, Blades Brown skipped college to turn pro.
He won the U.S. Amateur at 16, sending him on a path toward heading straight into the professional ranks rather than going to play at the NCAA level.
How did he get the name Blades Brown?
He’s named after his mother’s maiden name.
She was Rhonda Blades, and so he became Blades Brown.
How did Blades Brown already play in another event this week?
Blades Brown already golfed in a whole entire tournament before The AmEx.
He played on the Korn Ferry Tour (the PGA Tour’s minor league) to start the week, tying for 17th in the Bahamas in a tourney that finished Wednesday.
He then had to get to California to tee off Thursday.
Brown opened with a 67, but that must’ve just been jet lag, because he came out blistering hot in the second round.
“Arrived here around 8 p.m. Wednesday night,” Brown told Golf Digest. “Got some Panda Express. Got some groceries. Slept, started sleeping at 10. Then woke up at around 5, got here a little early to make a couple putts, because, I mean, it was blowing 30 the entire way [in the Bahamas], and then you get here and then it’s perfect. So it’s two completely different situations. But I had a lot of fun today, and bogey-free round, I’ll take that any day of the week.”
It’s been a whirlwind of a week.
If Brown caps it off with a win, it’ll be historic.
