The AFC Championship game will feature a backup quarterback, as Jarrett Stidham will be starting in place of Bo Nix for the Denver Broncos after Nix fractured his ankle against the Buffalo Bulls in the Divisional Round.

The NFC Championship game, however, won’t feature a backup signal-caller.

Sam Darnold will play vs. Rams in NFC Championship despite oblique injury

Despite some concern earlier in the week, Seattle Seahawks starting quarterback Sam Darnold has confirmed that he will be good to go for the championship showdown with the Los Angeles Rams.

Darnold has been dealing with an oblique injury that he suffered in practice prior to Seattle’s dominant win over the San Francisco 49ers last weekend.

“I feel really good,” Darnold said Friday. “Feeling really good this whole week. I feel like the process is going right along where it should be, so I feel really good for Sunday.”

Darnold was limited in practice throughout the week, but carries no designation into the game. He credited Seattle’s training staff for preparing him to play.

“The guys in the training room do a really good job with everybody, myself included,” Darnold said. “We’re just taking it day by day and making sure I do all the things I need to do to get ready for Sunday.”

If it were a regular season game, perhaps the story would be different and Darnold would sit out. But with a chance to go to the Super Bowl on the line, it’s not surprising that Darnold will tough it out.
