After an exciting 2025 season for the Chicago Cubs, they entered the offseason with one clear goal: to keep that momentum going. They have come out and had a strong winter period so far.
They shored up their bullpen with multiple additions. They came to terms with Phil Maton, Hoby Milner, Caleb Thielbar, and Colin Rea.
But they made headlines when they made a trade with the Miami Marlins to acquire Edward Carbera and then took that a step further when they signed Alex Bregman to a five-year, $175 million deal.

Three moves the Cubs could make after the Alex Bregman signing
Signing Alex Bregman makes this team dangerous. Not only do they have a fantastic glove at third base, but he will also be a top-of-the-order bat that the Cubs can depend on.
He also has the potential to make his teammates better.
However, the Cubs could still improve over the offseason. Bleacher Report’s Zachary D. Rymer suggests they need to figure out Matt Shaw’s future, listen to offers for Nico Hoerner, and potentially sign another bat.
“Shaw was out of a starting job as soon as the Cubs signed Alex Bregman, so they need to trade him or commit to him as a super-utility type. The alternative is opening up second base for him by trading Hoerner, though that is harder to imagine. The Cubs seem set otherwise, but they’re another team reportedly in on Miguel Andujar. It’s an odd fit, but perhaps the thinking is that he’s a better bench option than Justin Dean.”
Shaw’s future is in question with Bregman signing with Chicago. He could slide into a utility role, or move him to second base by trading away Nico Hoerner, who various teams have been calling the Cubs about this winter.
Andujar could provide a better bench option than Justin Dean, who only played in 18 games for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2025. However, the Cubs are not the only team interested in Andujar. His market has picked up recently, with Cody Bellinger and Kyle Tucker coming to terms with teams.
All in all, the Cubs have put themselves in a much better position than other teams on this list. There is a lot to be excited about if you are a fan of the North Siders.
