Maybe the news could’ve been worse, but it’s still a bummer for the Washington Commanders.

Jayden Daniels has been diagnosed with a dislocated left elbow, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Daniels is having an MRI on Monday, per Rapoport, who added that X-Rays were negative.

“The belief is it’s not as bad as it could’ve been,” Rapoport wrote. “But Daniels will miss several games… Though it looked gruesome, there is a chance this is not a season-ending injury. But the MRI will reveal if and when Daniels can return.”

Marcus Mariota is set to play as the QB1 until Daniels can potentially return.

The injury came with the Commanders trailing 38-7 on Monday Night Football to the Seattle Seahawks with about seven minutes left to play.

Down near the goal line, Daniels scrambled right, trying to find a way to the end zone.

When the Seahawks wrapped him up, Daniels was brought to the ground awkwardly, and he put his left arm down to support the fall.

His left elbow bent at a bad angle when Daniels pushed it into the ground. Trainers came out and immobilized it in a cast, and Daniels walked off slowly.

The Commanders fell to 3-6 with the loss, and unless Marcus Mariota can execute a big turnaround, there might not be playoff contention for Daniels to return to this season, anyway.

At this point, the best Washington can do is view this as a likely lost year and hope Daniels heals up fully to lead a new go at it in 2026.
