The Washington Commanders played in front of their home crowd on Sunday night, but the game was essentially decided in the first half. The Seattle Seahawks dominated from start to finish and were in full control early on. However, late in the game, Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels went down with an injury.

“Daniels was scrambling to the right sideline when Seahawks linebacker Drake Thomas tackled him. As Daniels rolled over, he tried to use his non-throwing arm to steady himself; however, upon landing on the grass, his left elbow appeared to bend inwards at an unnatural angle,” CBS Sports’ Zachary Pereles wrote.

Daniels’ injury was later diagnosed as a dislocated left elbow — a devastating blow for both him and the Commanders. There is currently no timetable for his return, and the injury could potentially sideline him for the remainder of the season.

“Commanders QB Jayden Daniels is expected to be sidelined indefinitely due to his dislocated left elbow, but it is uncertain whether his season is over, per sources,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter posted.

At the time of Daniels’ injury, the game was already out of reach — raising questions about why he was still on the field. Playing him that late carried unnecessary risk, and it came back to haunt Washington. Former FS1 analyst Emmanuel Acho didn’t hold back when criticizing the Commanders’ decision.

“I don’t like throwing out the word negligent often, but what the Washington Commanders have done with Jayden Daniels this season has been grossly irresponsible,” Acho wrote.

The Commanders may have lost one of the most electric young quarterbacks in the NFL for the rest of the season. Keeping Daniels in that late wasn’t necessary, though it’s possible he wanted to finish the game himself.

Daniels is a fierce competitor — there’s no denying that — but injuries are an unfortunate part of the game. Still, Acho makes a fair point: Daniels should have been on the bench by that point in the blowout.
