The Cincinnati Bengals came in Week 9 with a 3-5 record and in dire need of a win. A victory over the Chicago Bears would’ve had the Bengals not far behind the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC North, along with keeping their playoff hopes alive.
However, despite a miraculous fourth-quarter comeback, which included an onside kick recovery, the Bengals blew the game in the final seconds. The Bears were on the verge of losing, and the Bengals’ defense gave up a stunning 58-yard touchdown to Colston Loveland.
After the game and the stunning defeat, running back Chase Brown was asked about his emotions on the loss. Mike Petraglia of clnscincy.com shared the Browns‘ response, which was an NSFW message to the Bengals’ defense.
Chase Brown is fed up with the Bengals’ defense
“What the (expletive)?” Brown said. “We just gotta play complementary football. We put the ball in the endzone, and go up a point at the end, finish the (expletive) game. End it. That’s it. That’s what we need to do. Just end the (expletive) game.”

Cincinnati’s stunning loss was on the backs of a poor defensive performance. This is the third straight week where the Bengals’ defense has allowed at least 31 points, and if it weren’t for a last-second win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Bengals would be 2-7.
Brown isn’t alone in his frustration. Bengals superstar Ja’Marr Chase, as he walked into the locker room after the stunning loss, also had an NSFW comment on the defensive collapse. As Yanni Tragellis of Local12 News posted on Twitter/X, Chase said, “One (expletive) stop…”

The offense scored 42 points and was on the cusp of completing one of the most incredible comebacks of the season to keep their playoff hopes alive.
But the defense crumbled in a massive spot, allowing the Bears to score a game-winning touchdown on a play with blown coverage assignments and poor tackling.

Defense has been an issue all year for the Bengals. Even coming into the season, the defense was known to be a huge issue. Through nine weeks, not only is it still an issue, but it’s the worst unit in the NFL, and it has significantly hurt the Bengals’ chances this season.
The Bears’ improbable comeback had Brown stunned and fed up with the defense. All the defense had to do was get one stop. Brown is far from the only player to be frustrated with the defense, and the fanbase has matched their frustration.
Something needs to be addressed over the bye week with the defense. At 3-6, the Bengals are well outside of a playoff spot. This loss, along with their Week 8 collapse against the New York Jets, has come thanks to poor defensive performances when it matters most.
Cincinnati has some major questions to answer during the bye week, and by the upcoming Tuesday NFL trade deadline. Change could be coming for the Bengals on defense, especially following this brutal, historic collapse.
