The Denver Broncos have a big game this Sunday against the Houston Texans and that is the most important thing for the team to be focused on right now. But Sean Payton, George Paton and the rest of the front office must also be tending to all of the news regarding the NFL trade deadline.
This year’s deadline is Tuesday, November 4 and many are predicting that the league will see a flurry of moves before this date. The Broncos, in prime position to make a deep run this season, could be looking to add one final piece before then.
Many fans have thought that the team would pursue a deal for a wide receiver. New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave has been heavily connected to the Broncos as a possibility for the team to add. However, Josh Edwards of CBS Sports feels that it is actually the tight end position that the Broncos should be most concerned with.
“Evan Engram has not delivered in the manner that Sean Payton had anticipated. There has been a lot of chatter linking Denver and potentially available wide receivers, but a tight end may help them spread out the field a bit more”, wrote Edwards.
The Broncos still have big plans for Engram, but would adding a more effective second option at tight end open the offense a bit more and make things a bit less stressful on Bo Nix? Should the Broncos look to add a tight end before Tuesday, here are some players they could be looking at.
David Njoku, Cleveland Browns
For any team looking for a tight end at the trade deadline, David Njoku is likely the best option. The Cleveland Browns are in the midst of another terrible season, but they did find a great future option in Harold Fannin Jr. in this year’s draft. That could make Njoku expendable and give a team like the Broncos a chance to get a big-time playmaker at the position.
Gunnar Helm, Tennessee Titans
The Titans haven’t had many bright spots this season and though he hasn’t put up huge numbers, Gunnar Helm looks like a good future weapon.
Helm was a popular pick for the Broncos in mock drafts this past spring, mostly due to his Colorado ties. He has 19 catches for 172 yards and one touchdown on the season so far, but Sean Payton’s offense might be able to bring out more of his athletic skills and get his career on a better trajectory.
Juwan Johnson, New Orleans Saints
If any team in the league could be looking to sell off multiple assets at the trade deadline, it could be the Saints. Juwan Johnson is an underrated tight end who could end up being a great safety valve for Nix in Payton’s offense.
Kyle Pitts, Atlanta Falcons
This move is unlikely and would probably be the most costly for the Broncos to make, but it’s never really worked out for Kyle Pitts in Atlanta, so if the return on a deal would be enticing enough for the Falcons, they could turn him loose and let him get a fresh start elsewhere.

The Broncos could take advantage of his athleticism and use him in double-tight-end sets with Engram in order to create the kinds of big plays he’s just not seeing in Atlanta.
