The Denver Broncos are in the market for a tight end and, no, the addition of 41-year-old tight end Marcedes Lewis doesn’t mean the team is done adding at the position.
This comes from The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, who reports the Broncos are still looking for tight end help despite adding the 19-year veteran.
“The Broncos are monitoring the tight end market, even after signing Marcedes Lewis to their practice squad,” Russini wrote.
Because Russini’s report is short on specifics, we would assume the Broncos are in the market for a versatile tight end who can block and catch passes, which would assist in freeing up Evan Engram to do more work in the passing game while upgrading Bo Nix’s group of weapons.
Three teams immediately come to mind based on trade rumors we’ve seen in recent weeks.
The first is the Baltimore Ravens, who have veteran Mark Andrews in the final year of his deal. Andrews might be on the decline, but he’s still a plus pass-catcher and a good blocker.
The Ravens aren’t waving the white flag on 2025 despite their poor record, but they could still part with Andrews because they have two good young tight ends behind him in Isaiah Likely and Charlie Kolar.
Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda has previously reported that Andrews could be on the move at the trade deadline.
David Njoku of the Cleveland Browns is another name to keep an eye on after he was mentioned as a trade candidate by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, which makes sense considering he’s in the final year of his contract and the Browns are going nowhere.
Njoku checks the boxes for what the Broncos could be looking for thanks to his prowess as both a blocker and receiver.
One under-the-radar name to consider is Chig Okonkwo of the Tennessee Titans, who the team is open to trading, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The Titans’ playoff hopes waved bye-bye to them a long time ago and Chig is in the final year of his contract and will likely be looking for greener pastures in 2026.
Okonkwo is an athletic freak who could be unleashed in a better situation, and he is a serviceable blocker, at worst.
If the Broncos come away with any of those three players, they will have adequately addressed their tight end need for the second half of 2025.
