Two of the New York Giants‘ most promising young players, wide receiver Malik Nabers and running back Cam Skattebo, will both be on the shelf for a long time thanks to significant injuries.

Nabers suffered a torn ACL in Week 4 and Skattebo not only dislocated his ankle, he also suffered a fractured fibula and deltoid ligament rupture in Week 8, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, so there is more damage than initially feared, which sets the rookie up for a lengthy recovery.

This is obviously just an awful situation for the Giants, who were finally gaining some steam. Now, rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart has to navigate the rest of this season without his No. 1 wideout and top running back.

The Giants’ young stars will look ahead to 2026, but will either one be ready for the start of the season? Here’s what we know.

Cam Skattebo injury update

According to Rapoport, the Giants do expect Skattebo to be back for the offseason program despite the lackluster update on the extent of his injury.

“Giants RB Cam Skattebo, who was placed on IR yesterday, suffered not only a dislocated ankle, but also a fibula fracture and deltoid ligament rupture, sources say,” Rapoport reported Wednesday. “Surgery was right away to close the wound, and it was a success. NYG expects him back for the offseason program.”

This year, the Giants began their offseason program in April. It feels like a stretch to think Skattebo will be ready by then, but the most important thing is he’s ready for the start of next season in September, which appears very possible.

Malik Nabers injury update

Nabers had successful surgery on his right knee on Tuesday, the team said, and Rapoport reports that the Giants wideout should be ready for the 2026 season.

“Malik Nabers had his surgery today. He should be ready for the start of next season,” Rapoport wrote on X.

Because of how early in the season his injury happened, Nabers has a better chance than Skattebo to be ready for Week 1 next season, but clearly the latter has a good shot himself to be ready to roll.
