Serie A giants Napoli are prepared to make a renewed effort to sign Manchester United star Kobbie Mainoo in January.

The defending Italian champions made contact with United over a summer offer but it was rejected by the Red Devils as Ruben Amorim looked to keep his options open on the England international.

Mainoo has played a peripheral role for Amorim so far this season with no Premier League starts as Casemiro and club captain Bruno Fernandes have emerged as his preferred midfield pair.

The 20-year-old is rumoured to be angered by Amorim’s lack of clarity over his situation and will now ask the club to reconsider their stance in the winter market.

As per reports from Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, contact has already been made with United over Mainoo, as Antonio Conte plans for the second half of the season.

Kevin De Bruyne and Scott McTominay have been superb in the opening weeks of campaign alongside some eye-catching form from Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa.

However, the latter will be away on AFCON duty at the start of 2026, with Cameroon amongst the favourites to go deep in the competition in Morocco.

Stanislav Lobotka’s injury issues are also a concern for Conte and Mainoo is a loan option f United open the door for an exit.

McTominay – and current United loanee Rasmus Hojlund are working examples of Red Devils stars shining in Naples – and that could convince Mainoo, as he looks to fight back into Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
