The Los Angeles Dodgers fell 2-6 to the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 4 of the World Series on Tuesday, evening out the best-of-seven at two games apiece. Shohei Ohtani, who started and lasted six innings early, with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. launching a two-run homer in the third and the Jays adding a four-run seventh to pull away.

The loss snapped some of the momentum the Dodgers built after their 18-inning Game 3 thriller. That epic Game 3, an 18-inning marathon decided by Freddie Freeman’s walk-off homer, was still fresh in everyone’s minds. In that game, Shohei Ohtani had one of the most remarkable nights of the postseason.

The emotional and physical toll of that marathon felt to many like a factor in the next night’s result.

Roberts’ answer to the loss and lineup questions

After Game 4, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was blunt and clear about what kept him up in lineup decisions. Roberts said he was weighing whether to start Andy Pages, Alex Call or Miguel Rojas in Wednesday’s Game 5.

“Am I going to play Andy (Pages), am I going to play (Alex) Call, or am I going to play (Miguel Rojas)?” and signalled the team could make changes to get more production from the middle of the order.

“We haven’t we haven’t found our rhythm. We haven’t It sort of draws dead at certain parts of the lineup and different parts different innings different games . You know guys are competing certainly in the postseason you’re seeing everyone’s best,” Roberts said in post-game conference.

Roberts also mentioned the practical options on the bench. Rojas can slide into second base with Tommy Edman moving to center, or Call who can handle all three outfield spots could get the nod in center.

Those moves would aim to spark the lineup against a right-handed Toronto starter. Roberts’ honesty about the choices and his willingness to tinker reflected a manager trying to balance loyalty, recent form and the urgency of a short postseason series.
