The New York Jets have had several struggles throughout the 2025 season, as evidenced by their 1-7 record.

Aside from their 24th-ranked offense and 27th-ranked defense, the Jets have struggled in the return game this season as well. Their opening day returner, Kene Nwangwu, has missed a majority of the team’s games dealing with injuries.

Isaiah Williams, whom the team signed as a stopgap, started rough in his first few games in New York but has since improved and stabilized the Jets’ kick returns.

Isaiah Williams opens up on early struggles

Williams spoke to the press about his early mistakes and how he has been able to recover from them and earn back the trust of his coaches and teammates.

“I came back and made it an emphasis. Everything I messed up on, I’m going to get better at it,” said Williams.

“Every day I’m going to work on ball security, catch extra punts. I’m going to make sure my field awareness is better.”

Williams made his first appearance for the Jets in Week 2 against the Buffalo Bills, replacing Xavier Gipson, who cost the Jets a potential victory with an ill-timed fumble against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The spotlight on his mistakes were brightest in Week 4 when New York faced the Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football.

Williams fumbled a kick return and also fair caught a punt on his own three-yard line.

The former Detroit Lion was waived after the game, but was then brought back via the practice squad.

Since then, the mistakes have been limited, and he’s even seen some snaps on offense.
