The coaching carousel hasn’t slowed LSU’s recruiting momentum.

Just days after the Tigers parted ways with Brian Kelly, three-star wide receiver Kervin Johnson Jr. of Tioga (La.) High School announced his commitment to LSU. It’s a statement that speaks volumes about the program’s enduring pull even amid uncertainty.

Johnson, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound playmaker, flipped from Louisiana Tech after visiting Baton Rouge over the weekend. His social-media post — “Commited!!” — drew over six hundred thousand views in its first day, a reminder of how much LSU’s brand still resonates across the state.

Johnson told Tom Loy of 247Sports and Geaux247, “The staff treated me like family, and I liked the atmosphere. It felt like home.”

That sense of belonging helped close the deal despite the transition at the top. LSU’s interim staff, anchored by assistants who remained on the trail, including interim coach Frank Wilson, made Johnson a priority as the Tigers retool their 2026 class.

The timing is critical. The early signing period for the 2026 class is set for December 3–5, leaving less than six weeks for LSU to stabilize its recruiting board and preserve its top targets.

For a program in transition, the message was clear, “The Brand” remains strong. Coaching names may change, but the recruiting pitch in Tiger Stadium still sells itself.
