The New York Jets were seemingly ready to let veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor lead the way the rest of the 2025 season after Justin Fields’ struggles over the last month.

But then, Sunday happened. Fields found his rhythm and put together a quality outing, completing 65.6% of his passes for 244 yards, one touchdown, and no turnovers, leading the Jets to their first victory of the season.

Now, New York heads into their bye week, with a Week 10 tilt against the Cleveland Browns on deck. At head coach Aaron Glenn’s final press conference before the mini break, he was asked if he would name his starting quarterback going forward.

Aaron Glenn declines to name starting quarterback for Week 10

“I think you know what my answer’s going to be on that,” Glenn told the press when asked about his future decision.

“This is the bye week and we’re going to focus on us. I have time to make that decision.”

Taylor was assumed to be the Jets’ starter against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday until a knee injury kept him from traveling with the team to Ohio.

After Fields and New York’s recent offensive struggles, it felt like it was time for a change under center.

In his previous two starts against the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers, the former Ohio State product failed to complete more than 55% of his passes and throw for more than 50 yards.

It’s fair to wonder if his performance against the Bengals was a fluke or if Fields will be able to maintain his level of play as the season progresses.

For now, Glenn and his coaching staff have some time to decide on Week 10’s matchup with the Browns.
