The Pittsburgh Steelers are known for their classic black-and-yellow jerseys. The color scheme matches the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Pittsburgh Pirates, and even inspired Wiz Khalifa’s hit, “Black and Yellow.”
Like other teams in the NFL, the Steelers also want to pay tribute to the iterations of the franchise that came before the current team. This comes in the form of throwback uniforms. Pittsburgh has an interesting array to choose from, especially the oft-criticized “bumblebee jerseys.” In 2025, the Steelers will debut throwback uniforms that pay tribute to the 1933 team.
Here is more on the Steelers’ throwback uniforms, which they will debut for Week 8’s “Sunday Night Football” matchup.

Steelers throwback uniforms
The Steelers will wear matte gold helmets with a single black stripe down the middle. It also includes a gray mask with inspiration from the jerseys from the 1930s and 1960s.
The base of the jersey will be gold, with black vertical lines. This is an homage to the franchise’s original uniforms. Fans will also notice a crest on the chest. It is Pittsburgh’s city crest, and will sit on the left chest. Rather than wearing traditional black pants, the Steelers will wear beige pants to honor the 1933 khaki uniform.

Steelers defender Alex Highsmith loved the jerseys when he first saw them. He said, “The first time I saw it, my jaw dropped because we haven’t worn a jersey like that in a while as a team. It’s all so cool. I would say the helmet is my favorite part of it. That yellow matte helmet is just sick. I think it’s a cool new look. And then with the jersey, I love that. I am just really excited to wear it.”

Tight end Pat Freiermuth added, “The yellow helmet is sweet. We’ve worn black helmets since I’ve been here, and well before that, and just switching it up to a new helmet, I love it. It gets players excited. It gets the fans excited. It’s something cool to showcase. After we wear them, I want to keep that helmet forever. It’s super cool.”
