The San Antonio Spurs have opened the 2025-26 season in impressive fashion, winning their first two games on the road against the Dallas Mavericks and, most recently, the New Orleans Pelicans. In Friday night’s game, forward-center Victor Wembanyama continued to showcase why many believe he is a future face of the league. The 21-year-old turned in a dominant performance, finishing with 29 points, 11 rebounds and nine blocks, falling just one block shy of a rare triple-double. He also added two assists and one steal.
The performance follows an outstanding showing in Wednesday’s season opener, when Wembanyama posted 40 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks. His back-to-back displays have placed him at the center of early-season MVP chatter, and his defensive impact continues to separate him from other young stars.
Recording a triple-double with blocks remains one of the NBA’s rarest statistical accomplishments. According to league data, it has been achieved just 13 times since 2010 and only five times since 2015. Wembanyama himself was the most recent player to do it, tallying 27 points, 14 rebounds, 10 blocks, five assists and two steals last season against the Toronto Raptors.
With his unique length, timing and defensive instincts, Wembanyama may be one of the few players capable of delivering the NBA’s elusive fifth quadruple-double. That achievement has been recorded by only four players in league history: Nate Thurmond, Alvin Robertson, Hakeem Olajuwon and former Spurs legend David Robinson. Robinson was the most recent player to do so, accomplishing the feat in 1994.
Still just scratching the surface of his potential, Wembanyama appears poised for another major leap in his third season.
The Spurs will have Saturday off before returning home for their home opener and a three-game homestand. Their next matchup is Sunday against the winless Brooklyn Nets.
