The second round of the 2025 European Darts Championship starts on Saturday.

We’ve already seen several big names go down on Thursday and Friday in the first round.

2025 European Darts Championship second round predictions

Here are my predictions for the second round.

Ryan Searle (26) vs. Gian van Veen (10)

Winner: Gian van Veen, 10-7

Gian van Veen has been a player I, along with many, have been high on recently.

He’s been on the wrong end of some unfortunate defeats in recent months, but the luck eventually will fall on his side.

He averaged just under 99 against Damon Heta in the first round, so he’ll look to replicate that or do better against Searle.

Daryl Gurney (27) vs. Ross Smith (11)

Winner: Ross Smith, 10-5

An average of around 90.5 against Gerwyn Price was enough for Gurney to pick up a 6-2 win.

Smith had a convincing 6-2 win over Peter Wright, which wasn’t a huge challenge for him to overcome, but Smith should be able to find another gear in his match against Gurney.

Martin Schindler (2) vs. Ryan Joyce (15)

Winner: Martin Schindler, 10-6

Schindler showed resistance in a comeback win against Dave Chisnall.

He’ll have an even bigger German crowd behind him on Saturday afternoon, which should help him pick up another win, this time against Joyce.

Chris Dobey (30) vs. Michael van Gerwen (19)

Winner: Chris Dobey, 10-9

Dobey had one of the highest first-round averages this week, at 105.76.

MVG narrowly survived against Nijman, as he won the match despite surviving several match darts to win 6-5.

Outside of his WSoD Finals title, MVG has had a lot of early exits, and the early signs of this tournament don’t point towards him being safe in a clash with Dobey.

Ricardo Pietreczko (25) vs. Jermaine Wattimena (24)

Winner: Jermaine Wattimena, 10-7

Wattimena looked unstoppable against Niko Springer on Friday.

He’s continuing to carry momentum from game to game recently, as he trends towards making a deep run in a major TV tournament.

Pietreczko did pick up an impressive win over Josh Rock, putting up eye-catching scoring at times.

He should be able to stay in the game, but Wattimena’s recent form suggests he’ll be a tough opponent to take down.

Nathan Aspinall (1) vs. Danny Noppert (17)

Winner: Nathan Aspinall, 10-5

Aspinall is hungry to get back in the winning column at a major TV event, and started off the tournament this week pretty well.

He dismantled Rob Cross, averaging over 100 en route to a 6-1 victory.

If Aspinall can produce another ‘A’ game level performance, there won’t be much that Noppert can do to overcome ‘The Asp.’

Luke Littler (4) vs. James Wade (13)

Winner: Luke Littler, 10-7

Neither Littler nor Wade produced anything spectacular in their first game this week.

The two have already had some big stage matchups this year, including one at the UK Open and at the World Matchplay.

With Littler winning virtually every tournament he competes in, it’s hard to pick against him, even when he’s playing someone as good as Wade.

It should be another close one, but chances are, Littler will advance to the quarterfinal round.

Luke Humphries (5) vs. Cameron Menzies (21)

Winner: Luke Humphries, 10-4

Humphries and Menzies recently faced off in the quarterfinal round of the World Grand Prix, when Humphries won 3-1.

It’s a different format this time around, but the result should remain the same.

Humphries averaged just under 110 in his whitewash win over Ratajski.
