The Cleveland Browns seem to be relying on rookie quarterbacks for the remainder of the 2025 season.

After trading away Joe Flacco, they were left with first-year players Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders as the starter and backup.

But could Deshaun Watson, the Browns’ forgotten veteran, make a return at some point this season?

Browns’ QB coach gives update on Deshaun Watson

Bill Musgrave, Cleveland’s quarterback coach, spoke to ESPN’s Daniel Oyefusi about where Watson is in his rehab and his activity within the Browns’ building.

“Browns QB coach Bill Musgrave noted that Deshaun Watson has been in all of the position meetings and is engaged on the sideline during home games. He hasn’t been traveling for road games but was in Charlotte during joint practices to get his Achilles examined,” posted Oyefusi on X.

“‘He feels like he has a lot of tread left on his tire,'” said Musgrave.

Clearly, a return late in the season has not yet been ruled out for the former Clemson standout.

Watson came over in a trade from the Houston Texans in March 2022, when the Browns gave up three first-round picks, a third-round pick, and two fourth-round picks.

He also received a five-year, $230 million fully guaranteed contract, which he has yet to live up to.

In 19 starts with Cleveland, Watson has recorded a 9-10 record, 3365 passing yards, 19 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.

It’s possible the former 2017 first-round pick could come in and stabilize the quarterback position for the Browns, and if he does, Cleveland may finally get a return on their hefty investment.
