PROSPER, Texas, Oct. 24 — We’re under way in Prosper as Allen received the opening kickoff. After a three and out, Allen punted, and Prosper drove into position for an early field goal. It’s 3-0 Prosper in the second quarter.

PREVIEW

Many of the biggest games yet to come in Texas will take place once the playoffs get started in November. In the meantime, the Allen [TX] Eagles at the Prosper [TX] Eagles Friday afternoon is about as big as it gets in the Lone Star State, and the contest between the two powerhouses is The Sporting News High School Football Game of the Week.

Both teams enter the contest ranked in The Sporting News High School Football Top 25 with identical 7-0 records. Their rivalry has blossomed over the past seven years, becoming one of the most anticipated annual matchups in Texas, and this is the biggest game in the series, yet. It’s arguably the game of the year so far in Texas, but it will be played in slightly different circumstances.

Due to the threat of storms in the Dallas metro area Friday night, the game has been moved to early afternoon, now scheduled for 2 p.m. EST (1 p.m. CST local) at Children’s Health Stadium at PISD in Prosper. The energy from a night game with a huge crowd at Prosper’s impressive facility is always palpable, and it’s unclear what impact that might have on attendance since it will now be played during standard working hours.
