The NFL trade deadline is under two weeks away, and the edge rusher market will be one of the primary focuses.
Many teams will be in the market for pass rushers during the deadline, and according to FOX Sports’ Ralph Vacchiano, the three most likely edge rushers to be moved are Miami Dolphins’ starters Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips, and New York Jets former Pro Bowler Jermaine Johnson.
“That likely leaves Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips of the Miami Dolphins and Jermaine Johnson of the New York Jets as the edge rushers most likely to be moved,” Vacchiano wrote.
Vacchiano also mentioned the teams that are seeking pass-rush help, and the long list includes the Philadelphia Eagles, Kansas City Chiefs, Dallas Cowboys, and New England Patriots. The San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions are also mentioned.
Contending squads are always on the lookout for impactful edge rushers who can consistently generate pressure on the quarterback. Every team listed above fits that bill, though there are just a few who still truly need pass-rushing help.
The Eagles lost Za’Darius Smith to retirement, and though Brandon Graham’s return from retirement should aid the pass rush, it isn’t enough. Adding another pass rusher to the fold would be a wise move from general manager Howie Roseman, who is known for making savvy acquisitions.
Along with Philadelphia, their NFC East rival, Dallas, could use a bona fide No.1 edge rusher. The Cowboys no longer have a dominant edge threat after trading away Micah Parsons.
Lastly, the Chiefs and Patriots already have solid pass rushes, but the more the merrier. The Chiefs could use a third primary edge rusher to pair with George Karlaftis and Charles Omenihu, while New England needs another force opposite Harold Landry.
