Can the Blue Jays slow down the Dodgers?
That’s the main question heading into this year’s World Series, a star-studded showdown apt for baseball’s biggest stage.
L.A. is hoping to become the first repeat champion since the Yankees won three straight titles from 1998-2000. And the Dodgers are gliding through the postseason with little adversity, having lost just once in 10 playoff games. The starting pitching is on a historic stretch, and Shohei Ohtani roared to life after a brief slump with a jaw-dropping three-homer game to lead L.A. to the pennant.
But the Blue Jays certainly have “team of destiny” vibes and their own superstar, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., carrying them through October. Guerrero rightfully won ALCS MVP, but the Jays wouldn’t be here without George Springer, whose three-run home run in the seventh inning of Game 7 shook the Rogers Centre.
Toronto is back in the Fall Classic for the first time since 1993, when it won its second of back-to-back championships.
