First impressions matter.
Philadelphia 76ers rookie V.J. Edgecombe made a brilliant first impression.
He scored 14 points in the first quarter of his NBA career, playing 11 minutes right off the bat for the ‘Sixers against the Boston Celtics.
Even more notably, there was one stretch where Edgecombe scored 10 76ers points in a row.

That included one of the fiercest dunks you’ll ever see a rookie guard throw down.
Edgecombe had a perimeter mismatch against center Xavier Tillman, so he crossed him over, surged to the hoop and threw down a right-handed tomahawk.

“Best first quarter of a first game for a rookie in a LONG time,” wrote The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor on X. “Can’t remember this fast of a start before. And VJ Edgecombe is doing it in so many different ways too. Nasty.”
Edgecombe was a one-and-done at Baylor before the 76ers took him as the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, behind just Cooper Flagg and Dylan Harper.
He looks like he’ll live up to the hype.
