Real Madrid hope to join the other European giants atop the Champions League table as they host Serie A side Juventus at the Bernabeu on Wednesday in league phase play.

Los Blancos have secured two wins from two so far, and could find themselves alongside the likes of PSG, Arsenal, and Inter with a perfect record through three matches should they secure a victory this time around.

Juventus, meanwhile, are in a terrible run of form, as head coach Igor Tudor finds himself under pressure having failed to win any of their last four domestic games, the latest blow being a defeat in gorgeous Como on the weekend.

The Old Lady have also have just two points from their first two Champions League games and are already feeling the head down near the cut line in the league phase standings.

25th min: Having built themselves into a strong position, Real Madrid are looking the better side now as they turn up the heat on the Juventus back line. It has not resulted in a major goal scoring chance of yet, but they have ripped off six shots in the last 10 minutes.

An effort from Brahim Diaz from the right which is saved by Michele Di Gregorio for a corner, and the ensuing set-piece sees two more Madrid efforts blocked. The momentum is shifting…

14th min: Chance, Juventus! Another central shot from distance by the Italians, this time from Federico Gatti, and another diving save by Thibaut Courtois! Again, it’s a bit elementary for the Real Madrid goalkeeper, but testing nonetheless!

Real Madrid have started very slow on both ends of the pitch.

10th min: Chance, Juventus! A shot from deep by Weston McKennie is saved by a diving Thibaut Courtois! It forced the Real Madrid goalkeeper to leave his feet, but was too central in the end to be a real threat. Still, Juventus have been more dangerous than Madrid, despite the hosts having the majority of possession!

7th min: Juventus look a threat on the counter, as Pierre Kalulu runs an incisive transitional move down the right, and his cross to the middle is dangerous but Thibaut Courtois does just enough to prevent it reaching Dusan Vlahovic, albeit awkwardly.

3rd min: Real Madrid are in control of the early possessional phase, and it appears that Arda Guler, not Jude Bellingham, is the one to drop deeper in midfield to make room for the other. We’ll see how much those two interchange during the match, as there could be plenty of fluidity in the XI from Xabi Alonso.

15 mins to kickoff: Kylian Mbappe thrived in his first season at Real Madrid, but at the expense of the rest of his squad.

Now under Xabi Alonso, the Frenchman has continued his electric form but in the context of team success. Mbappe leads all Champions League goal scorers with five through the first two matches, while Real Madrid have conceded just one on the other end.

30 mins to kickoff: A perfect illustration of the current state of Juventus is the decision to hand 20-year-old Kenan Yildiz the captain’s armband tonight against Real Madrid, his first time ever captaining the side.

Taking nothing away from Yildiz, who has been a positive injection of life to this Juventus attack, the fact there is no veteran presence in this squad with the leadership skills to captain the side is a condemnation of how Juventus have operated the last few years. Their recruitment has left them without any more experienced club icons to lean on during spells of poor form.

Can they turn around the losing streak tonight, or will Igor Tudor find himself in further disarray?

45 mins to kickoff: There are few surprises in the Juventus lineup from under-pressure manager Igor Tudor tonight. The most interesting tweak is up front, where Dusan Vlahovic comes in to replace Jonathan David after the latter fired a blank over the weekend against Como.

USMNT star Weston McKennie, who excelled in the 3-4-3 used by Mauricio Pochettino over the international break, is in the XI in his more natural central midfield position, having deputised at wing-back multiple times this season.

McKennie credits Tudor for his offseason fitness programme which has seen him become noticeably slimmer and more muscular.

1 hour to kickoff: The Real Madrid lineup is in, and there are some interesting tweaks from Xabi Alonso.

To keep Arda Guler in the No. 10 position he has thrived in so far, Jude Bellingham is moved deeper in midfield, bumping Eduardo Camavinga out of the XI. There is also a change on the wing, with Brahim Diaz entering for Franco Mastantuono.

1 hour 15 mins to kick: While everyone reminisces about the last time these two teams met in the Champions League, the most recent meeting between these two sides in any competition came just this past summer in the Club World Cup.

In that game, young Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Garcia scored the only goal in a 1-0 win for Los Blancos, en route to winning the competition’s Golden Boot award. That hasn’t led to much more playing time for the 21-year-old this season, however, as he has logged just 105 minutes since the 2025/26 campaign began, including just 10 in the Champions League so far.

1 hour 30 mins to kick: According to a report by The Athletic, the 2018 comeback by Juventus in the Champions League quarterfinal was the moment Cristiano Ronaldo was convinced he wanted to play for the Italian club the following season.

However, that same report states that Juve are still paying for signing Ronaldo — literally — as they still have a €14 million line item on their books related to Ronaldo’s signing, and there’s an ongoing court case as well to resolve what the superstar claims to be unpaid wages.

1 hour 45 mins to kick: The last time these clubs faced off in the Champions League, Juventus very nearly pulled off a sensational comeback from down 3-0 in the first leg. They would go on to lose thanks to a stoppage-time penalty from Cristiano Ronaldo on a decision by Michael Oliver which sent Gianluigi Buffon into outer space.

2 hours to kickoff: Xabi Alonso seems to have already solved the issue plaguing the Real Madrid attack upon his arrival, but there is another tactical question to answer now that he has a more fit midfield to select from.

With Jude Bellingham back in the side, the Real Madrid boss has to figure out what to do with Arda Guler and Franco Mastantuono, who were both in good form during Bellingham’s early-season absence. Guler flourished in the No. 10 role while Bellingham was out, and sticking him out wide at the expense of Mastantuono feels like borrowing from Peter to pay Paul.

Alonso’s injury problems in defence are still a few weeks away from easing with four key defenders sidelined.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dean Huijsen and Dani Carvajal are expected back to full fitness by the end of the month but Antonio Rudiger is out until mid-December.

Federico Valverde continues at right-back, but David Alaba is unlikely to start two games back-to-back, so Raul Asencio should partner Eder Militao.

Alonso spoke glowingly of Arda Guler in the build-up, and he starts at the No. 10 position he has blossomed in during the absence of Jude Bellingham to begin the season. Bellingham is moved deeper in midfield, with Eduardo Camavinga dropped. Interestingly, Brahim Diaz comes into the XI in place of young Franco Mastantuono who has garnered praise for his impressive performances so far.
