Bayern Munich didn’t have the best of summer transfer windows and yet they have had a historic start to their 2025/26 campaign by winning the first 11 games across competitions.
Due to their exceptional form, manager Vincent Kompany has been handed a contract extension, and the Bavarians are looking to support the Belgian in every way possible.
According to reports via German outlet TZ, Bayern Munich are closely monitoring Strasbourg’s versatile left-back Valentin Barco.
The Bavarians have sent scouts to monitor Barco’s development who has caught the eye of several clubs with his recent performances for Strasbourg.
The Argentine defender who can also play as a midfielder joined Strasbourg on loan initially in February this year before they permanently signed him in July for a meagre £7.87m.
Hailed as one of the most exciting youth prospects to come out of Argentine in recent years, Barco has intrigued Bayern manager Vincent Kompany mainly due to his versatility of playing as a left back and doubling up in midfield.

Following his recent performances, Strasbourg have slapped a €40m ($46.3m) price tag on the 21-year-old youngster.
Why are Bayern Munich chasing Strasbourg’s Barco?
Barco established himself back in Argentina for Boca Juniors and his first big move to Europe happened in January 2024 when he joined Brighton for a reported €10m transfer fee.
He had a couple of loan stints with Sevilla and Strasbourg before the joined the latter permanently and is making a name for himself in Ligue 1.

He recently delivered a masterclass performance for Strasbourg in their recent 3-3 draw against PSG, starting in midfield, he controlled the tempo and found some exceptional passes.
Barco also produced an assist to Strasbourg’s second goal on the night which was scored by Diego Moreira.
Overall, Bayern see him as someone who can replace Raphael Guerreiro, who may continue with the Bavarians beyond this season.
Also, if the deal materializes, he would be a backup for Alphonso Davies on the left whilst also providing cover in midfield.
The 21-year-old brings exceptional technical ability, great spatial awareness whilst being an aggressive tackler.
His transition from a left-back to midfield under Strasbourg coach Liam Rosenior has been nothing short of revolutionary as the Argentine is just too talented to be restricted to the left flank.
Bayern are currently keeping a close eye on the 21-year-old and if they act quickly, they may secure a fine young talent before other clubs join the bandwagon.
