The first game of the season can always create some interesting injury situations that no one saw coming.
That includes Anthony Edwards. The Minnesota Timberwolves star popped up on the injury report on Tuesday, ahead of the Wednesday season opener.
Minnesota is in Portland to open the season against the Portland Trail Blazers in a game that tips off at 10 p.m. ET (9 p.m. CT, 7 p.m. PT).
Edwards is a blossoming superstar, one that the Timberwolves and the whole NBA would much rather see on the court than on the sideline.
But there’s at least some question about his opening night availability now.

Is Anthony Edwards playing tonight?
Anthony Edwards is officially questionable for Wednesday night’s Timberwolves game against the Trail Blazers.
He’s listed as having back spasms.
That’s an injury that could certainly go away or that could pop up worse by game time, so there’ll be at least some doubt throughout the day until head coach Chris Finch speaks with reporters Wednesday evening.

The Timberwolves will likely start Mike Conley, Jaden McDaniels, Julius Randle and Rudy Gobert regardless of Edwards’ status.
If the superstar sits out, the logical replacement in the starting five is Donte DiVincenzo. Minnesota would also have Rob Dillingham and Terrence Shannon Jr. as possibilities to slot in for Edwards, and they’d be two players who would likely see more time either way if Edwards sits out.
Of course, the best thing for Minnesota is for Edwards to be healthy and play, and the Timberwolves will be crossing their fingers for that outcome.
