The Los Angeles Dodgers are once again headed to the World Series, looking to go back-to-back for the first time in a long while. Winning consecutive championships is extremely rare in MLB. With Game 1 set for Friday, some roster decisions are still up in the air. One name to watch is Tanner Scott, who is returning from a minor procedure.

“As I understand it, it was abscess excision, some type of lower body (procedure),” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “I don’t know a whole lot about it, to be quite honest with you. But I do know that he’s recovering well. And it took place last night. That’s kind of where we’re at.”

Scott has had a tough season after being one of the most sought-after bullpen arms this past winter. At times, his year has been disastrous, leading him to believe he might be tipping his pitches.

“I don’t know if I’m tipping or what but they’re on everything. It sucks. … It was a fastball above the zone. Maybe I’m tipping. I have no friggin’ clue right now. It’s terrible. I’m having the worst year of my life. I gotta be better,” Scott told the media earlier in the season.

Scott has spent the past week working out with the Dodgers and appears ready to return. He’s made it clear that he’ll be available for the World Series if the team wants him.

“Tanner Scott says he ‘feels a lot better now.’ He’s thrown a couple bullpen sessions and feels ‘healthy’ enough to be on the World Series roster if the Dodgers want to add him,” Dodgers Blue posted.

If Scott is able to come back, the closer role could get interesting, as rookie Roki Sasaki has claimed that spot during the postseason. Scott may have to accept a different role from the one he previously held.

This could create an unusual situation for either Scott or Sasaki, depending on how the Dodgers choose to configure the bullpen. The team will try to manage the situation carefully if Scott is added to the World Series roster.
