On the biggest stage in prime time, the Detroit Lions once again turned to their electric playmaker, Jahmyr Gibbs, who delivered the explosive power the team needed. Early in the Monday Night Football clash against the Buccaneers, Gibbs exploded for a spectacular 78-yard touchdown run that reminded the league why he is considered one of the NFL’s most dynamic young weapons.
Gibbs, dubbed “Sonic” by some fans, took the handoff, pressed the line, and sliced through a thin seam created by the offensive line. Once in the open field, he utilized his elite acceleration, sprinting to the end zone for what became the Lions’ longest offensive play of the 2025 season. He finished the first half with 161 scrimmage yards, and his touchdown run was the longest by any Lion in 14 years,
Gibbs was third in the NFL in scrimmage yards and first in touchdowns in 2024, and once again, he has been a major instrument to the Lions success this season.

Who has the most scrimmage yards in Lions’ history?
Calvin Johnson holds the Lions record for the most scrimmage yards in a single game. On October 27, 2013 against the Dallas, Calvin “Megatron” delivered a performance of historic proportions that remains the highest receiving yardage total ever recorded in an NFL game that ended in regulation.
Johnson tormented the Cowboys’ secondary throughout the afternoon, hauling in 14 receptions for a staggering 329 receiving yards and one touchdown in the Lions’ dramatic 31-30 victory. Johnson’s individual stats were so overwhelming that he fell just seven yards shy of the all-time NFL record held by Flipper Anderson. His yardage total single-handedly outgained the entire Cowboys offense by over 60 yards, highlighting his sheer dominance.
The game itself provided an iconic finish, with quarterback Matthew Stafford using Johnson’s final catch — a 22-yard grab to the one-yard line — to set up the game-winning fake spike and quarterback sneak with just 12 seconds remaining, ensuring that Johnson’s phenomenal effort did not go to waste.
