The San Francisco Giants are entering what will be an important offseason. They have a ton of questions moving forward, but none bigger than who will be their next manager.
Bob Melvin was fired in September, and Buster Posey, who works as the team’s president of baseball operations, is looking for the next skipper. There are a few names associated with the job, such as Nick Hundley, Bruce Bochy, or Skip Schumaker, but the search is far from over.
Additionally, Posey is tasked with developing a better product for the 2026 season. The Giants have missed the postseason for the last four years, and fans are more than ready for that to change.
Giants urged to stay away from big-name free agent this winter
Luckily for the Giants, there will be some elite talent on the open market this winter. Cody Bellinger, Kyle Schwarber, and Kyle Tucker are all expected to be free agents when the season comes to an end.
While those are intriguing options, one of those players may not be the best option. Fansided’s Jake Elman argues that the team should stay away from Kyle Tucker.
“Tucker is definitely an upgrade over Drew Gilbert, and the Giants traded their previous starting right fielder, Mike Yastrzemski, to Kansas City in July. Actually, maybe Posey should consider re-signing Yastrzemski on a one-year deal and eyeing a starting pitcher. We wouldn’t recommend bringing back Justin Verlander, who turns 43 next spring, and asking him to pitch at least 150 innings again. We like the idea of the Giants being aggressive, though that doesn’t mean they need to sign Tucker.”
Elman likes the idea of the Giants being aggressive over the winter, but just not for Tucker. Other options could better fill the team’s holes, and the club also needs to focus on other areas, like starting pitching.
