The big headline for the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday was when they signed Alex Antetokounmpo to a two-way deal. The younger brother of Giannis will get the possibility of playing with his MVP bro for the first time.
But the Bucks had to get rid of a couple players to keep their training camp roster balanced.
The two-way spot that was cleared for Alex belonged to Jamaree Bouyea.
The Bucks also waived Cormac Ryan, according to a team announcement.
Ryan is an intriguing player in the modern NBA for one reason: He can shoot it.
The 6-foot-5 guard spent last season playing for the Oklahoma City Blue in the G League. In 37 games there, he shot 38.4% from 3-point range. He averaged 12.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.
His shooting stroke is legit. At the foul line for the Blue, Ryan shot 97.0% in 2024-25.
Ryan was originally undrafted in 2024. He spent his college career at Stanford, then Notre Dame, then North Carolina.
It’s not obvious that Ryan has enough other skills that translate to eventually stick around in the NBA, but he will likely head to the G League now for the Wisconsin Herd. He could opt to go elsewhere, or a team could claim him off waivers.
But as an Exhibit 10 signee this offseason, Ryan is incentivized to join Milwaukee’s G League affiliate, the Herd, to earn a bonus if he’s there at least 60 days.
For now, Ryan is in limbo just for a bit, but it’s safe to expect his shooting stroke back in the G League to start this new season.
